AEP comments on Conservative Party energy policy proposals
Commenting on the Conservative Party’s energy policy proposals (published 19 March 2010), the Chief Executive of the Association of Electricity Producers, David Porter said:
‘The paper recognises the need for a framework which supports the massive investment required for new power stations and the transition to a low carbon power industry. We are also glad that it favours a market-based approach – sometimes the huge achievements of our energy market seem to be overlooked. There are, of course, some controversial proposals in the document and we look forward to discussing those in the consultation process.
‘The Association is holding a seminar on 15 April, when the issues affecting the £200 billion of investment that is needed will be debated very openly. We had Ofgem’s rather provocative report published in February and now we have the Conservative’s proposals. I look forward very much to the debate. We absolutely must find the right answers and I am confident that we shall.’
